Taipei Metro Xinyi Line eastern extension cleared for service

Aug 19, 2026

Taipei's Xinyi Line will soon run further east after regulators signed off on the new stretch, good news for commuters in the Xinyi and Guangci area.

  • The Ministry of Transportation approved the extension for service on August 18 after the city fixed the issues flagged in the pre-opening inspection.
  • The new stretch runs east from Xiangshan station along Xinyi Road to a new end station at Guangci/Fengtian Temple, adding just over a kilometer of track.
  • Construction started back in 2016, making this a long-delayed piece of the network.
  • Mayor Chiang Wan-an had earlier said the line would open by the end of August, and the city says it is rushing to finish operating preparations.

Outlook: Trains are expected to start carrying passengers within weeks, likely before the end of August.
