Seized German camper trailer to be auctioned in Keelung on Aug. 24
A million-dollar imported camping trailer taken in a drug smuggling case is going up for public auction in Keelung — good news for bargain hunters, since it will likely sell well below retail.
- Keelung prosecutors seized the German-made Hobby camper trailer while investigating a drug smuggling attempt, and the defendant agreed to let it be sold off.
- The trailer is a year old and fully fitted out with bunks, a bathroom, a kitchen, a fridge and a sofa, with taxes already paid.
- It sells in Taiwan for between NT$1.2 million and NT$1.5 million depending on trim, but the small pool of buyers means the auction price could come in far lower.
- Buyers can inspect it on Aug. 21 at the Keelung investigation office parking lot with ID; bidding on Aug. 24 requires registration and a NT$200,000 deposit.
- Catch: it has not been road-tested, inspected or plated yet, and towing it needs a trailer license — though it can also just be parked as a small guest room.
Outlook: The auction is set for the morning of Aug. 24, and with few camper buyers in Taiwan a low winning bid looks likely.
