New Taipei police arrest fugitive running drug-packing operation in Keelung
A man wanted on drug, gun, and obstruction charges was caught in a Keelung apartment where police say he was packaging drugs, ending a long stretch on the run.
- The 53-year-old suspect, surnamed Lu, had been dodging a nine-year prison sentence and moved hiding spots four times to stay with his girlfriend.
- Tamsui police raided the apartment with shields and riot gear, waking him with a flashlight and pinning him down before he could reach a weapon.
- Officers seized heroin, methamphetamine, etomidate, scales, zip-lock bags, needles, and over 100 empty vape cartridge shells.
- Lu claimed the drugs were for personal use, but police believe he was repackaging and selling them to fund life in hiding.
- Both Lu and his girlfriend, surnamed Chen, were handed to prosecutors, and Lu was taken in to start serving his sentence.
Outlook: Prosecutors will keep digging for the drug supply chain behind the operation.
