Li Si-chuan Proposes an "AI Technology Corridor" for Taipei and New Taipei

Aug 19, 2026

New Taipei City mayoral candidate Li Si-chuan has presented the business community with an urban blueprint centred on deregulation and on linking the high-tech industries of Taipei and New Taipei — a positive signal for technology firms looking to build plants and invest in New Taipei.

  • The core policy is to bring high-tech industry from the Nangang Software Park, the Neihu Technology Park and the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park into New Taipei, forming a complete AI industrial corridor.
  • The main emphasis is on administrative deregulation, citing Nvidia's move into the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park and the lifting of the ban on concerts at the Taipei Dome as examples of how outdated regulations have blocked investment and how those obstacles were overcome.
  • Transport is the supporting measure: priority would go to the Lu-She Bridge linking the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park, Luzhou and Wugu, extending via Provincial Highways 64 and 65 to Banqiao, Tucheng, Shulin and Xindian.
  • He also put forward a "Rail Construction 1-2-3" plan, comprising the Tamsui-Taipei Expressway, the Dahan River MRT trunk line and an extension of the Zhonghe Guangfu line, with the goal of a 30-minute living circle across Taipei and New Taipei.
  • The intended audience is clear: business leaders from groups such as the Third Wednesday Club, effectively signalling to investors that New Taipei will be a city where business gets done.

Outlook: This "AI technology capital" pitch will keep being expanded during the campaign; whether it can actually be delivered depends on the progress of deregulation and Taipei-New Taipei cooperation after the election.
