Kaohsiung to Subsidise Lunch Costs for Public Preschool Teachers; 63 Schools to Add IT Units
Kaohsiung is putting more money into public preschools and school IT staffing, good news for teachers and childcare staff.
- Starting in the 2026 school year, the city will pay the full lunch cost for teachers in public preschool classes, including special-education classes.
- The lunch subsidy costs the city close to NT$20 million a year and helps about 1,300 frontline childcare and teaching staff.
- The city is also loosening the rules for schools to add an IT unit, dropping the bar to 13 classes across all school levels — 63 schools qualify.
- The IT change costs about NT$12 million a year and is meant to push digital teaching and smarter campus systems.
- Other measures come with it: fewer required teaching hours for elementary school administrative heads and one less class for junior-high Chinese teachers who serve as homeroom teachers.
Outlook: The changes take effect with the 2026 school year, and Kaohsiung says more teacher-support measures are on the way.
