Kaohsiung Sees Largest Increase in Social Housing Units Nationwide; Daliao Social Housing Applications Close August 25
The number of social housing units in Kaohsiung has risen sharply, welcome news for residents who cannot afford market rents.
- Social housing in Kaohsiung has grown from 790 units in 2020 to 23,055 units this year, an increase of 22,265 units during the mayor's term.
- The increase ranks first among the six special municipalities, ahead of New Taipei, Tainan, Taichung, Taoyuan and Taipei.
- The city-built Daliao social housing complex is now accepting rental applications for a total of 384 units, including studios and one- to three-bedroom apartments, along with 16 units set aside as a senior housing community.
- Applications close at 5:30 p.m. on August 25, with a public lottery to be held on October 23.
- In addition to the projects already completed, all newly planned developments have been put out to tender.
Outlook: Residents are expected to begin moving into the Daliao social housing complex from December 8, with leases formally starting on January 1 next year.
