Kaohsiung labor broker gets suspended sentence for assaulting migrant caregiver

Aug 18, 2026

A Kaohsiung job broker who preyed on a foreign caregiver in his care admitted guilt in court and paid her off in exchange for a suspended sentence — a light outcome for a serious abuse of power.

  • The broker was driving a migrant caregiver to meet her new employer and instead took her to his home in Fengshan.
  • There he showed her nude photos and porn, pushed cash at her for sex, then groped her and grabbed her from behind for about an hour.
  • She got away only by making a video call to her husband and her former employer for help.
  • He first told investigators the nude photos were to "check her nationality" and the money was a cleaning fee, but prosecutors did not buy it.
  • After switching to a guilty plea and paying compensation in court, he got six months, convertible to a fine, plus two years suspended.

Outlook: The sentence can still be appealed, and the case adds to pressure on Taiwan to protect migrant caregivers from the brokers who control their jobs.
