Four-car pileup on the Zhongshan Freeway in Sanchong

Aug 18, 2026

A four-car crash on the freeway in New Taipei's Sanchong section left nobody hurt, a rare good outcome for a chain collision at highway speed.

  • Traffic had backed up on the southbound stretch near the Taipei–Sanchong boundary late Tuesday night when a car slammed into an SUV ahead of it.
  • The impact pushed two more delivery vans into the crash, and one car was spun a full 180 degrees across the lane.
  • Everyone in all four vehicles was wearing a seatbelt and walked away unhurt.
  • All drivers tested clean for alcohol, and the driver who hit first is believed to have simply missed the slowdown ahead.
  • The wreck jammed traffic behind it for close to an hour before the lanes were cleared.

Outlook: Police are still working out the exact cause, and highway patrol is pushing drivers to keep their distance and flick on hazard lights when traffic stalls.
