A three-vehicle chain-reaction crash occurred on the northbound Sanyi section of Taiwan's National Highway 1, killing two people and leaving four with injuries ranging from minor to serious. It was another case of a secondary collision in which people died after getting out of their vehicles to inspect the damage.

- While the two drivers were standing between the two vehicles talking, a car from behind struck the van, pinning them in between.
- The van's 45-year-old driver, surnamed Chiang, and a 62-year-old Filipino woman passenger were pronounced dead at hospital. The Tesla's 36-year-old driver, a woman surnamed Li, was resuscitated but remains unconscious.
- The driver of the following car, a woman surnamed Lin, registered 0 on a breath alcohol test; blood samples have been taken from the first two drivers for testing.
- Firefighters had to use equipment to jack up the vehicles and force open the doors before the two trapped people could be pulled out.
Outlook: Police reiterated that in highway accidents where no one is injured and vehicles can still be moved, drivers should immediately switch on their hazard lights, set out warning triangles and move their vehicles to a safe place, to avoid this kind of fatal secondary collision.
