Camping dispute in Miaoli ends with three shots fired at a woman's car
Prosecutors in Taiwan are seeking more than ten years in prison for a man who shot at a fellow camper's car, a case being treated as a serious threat to public safety.
- A man from Hsinchu was camping in Miaoli's Nanzhuang township when a woman asked him to quiet down late at night.
- The next morning he drove up to her car and fired three shots at its tire and fender with a modified handgun, then fled.
- Police arrested him two days later and recovered the illegal gun and 31 rounds of ammunition hidden under a bridge in Hsinchu County.
- Charges include illegal possession of a handgun and ammunition, firing a weapon in a public place, and property damage.
Outlook: The case now goes to trial, where prosecutors will push for the heavier sentence they say the danger to the public warrants.
