Bad blood over the Changhua county magistrate nomination? Cheng Li-wun: We couldn't find Wang Huei-mei's "Prince Charming"
The KMT's nomination for Changhua county magistrate has left a rift, bad news for the party's local election prospects.
- Party chair Cheng Li-wun has appeared in Changhua four times in three weeks to stump for candidate Wei Ping-cheng, while incumbent magistrate Wang Huei-mei has skipped party events one after another.
- Cheng acknowledged that the nomination outcome did not match Wang's original expectations, and that the party's central leadership "was unable to find the Prince Charming the magistrate had in mind."
- Wang said she only learned the choice had been finalised from media reports while she was abroad, and defended her appearance alongside Lai Ching-te.
- Cheng stressed that there is "no bad blood" between the two, and that what matters is Wang appearing alongside the candidate, not alongside her.
Outlook: Wang will keep watching Wei Ping-cheng's performance for now, and the pressure on the party's central leadership to bring the sides together will only grow.
