NONO sexual assault case: High Court opens appeal hearing
Taiwanese entertainer NONO, cleared of rape and indecent assault charges in May, is back in court as prosecutors appeal — bad news for him, since the acquittal is no longer settled.
- Taiwan's High Court held its first hearing in the appeal, lasting about 15 minutes.
- NONO, whose real name is Chen Hsuan-yu, said nothing to reporters when asked if he was confident of staying cleared.
- The charges cover alleged assaults on two women between 2011 and 2013, one during a massage at a Taipei club, the other in his car after meeting through Facebook.
- The lower court found the evidence too weak to convict, but prosecutors say the ruling contradicted itself and ignored parts of the evidence without explanation.
Outlook: The appeal will run through more hearings before the High Court decides whether to uphold the acquittal or overturn it.
