Kuomintang New Taipei City mayoral candidate Li Si-chuan is courting support from grassroots construction and engineering workers ahead of the election, a positive development for his campaign.

• Li Si-chuan attended a banquet held by the New Taipei City office of the Taiwan Electrical Engineering Industrial Association, where he loudly voiced his support for fellow tradespeople.
• He stressed that he came up through manual labour, holding four professional certificates: electrician, indoor wiring, industrial wiring, and refrigeration and air conditioning.
• He pledged that, if elected mayor, he would be a source of support for grassroots engineering partners, improving their working conditions and safety.
• Legislator Hung Meng-kai and a number of New Taipei City councillors and council candidates also attended, in a show of party mobilisation.

Outlook: Li Si-chuan is expected to keep working the grassroots circuit, targeting trade associations and community organisations to shore up his base through to the year-end election.
