Iguana on the road causes crash in Tainan
A car in southern Taiwan braked to avoid a green iguana crossing the highway and was rear-ended by a truck — bad for both drivers, worse for the iguana, but nobody was seriously hurt.
- The car slowed suddenly on a coastal highway in Tainan's Qigu district when an iguana wandered into the lane.
- A truck behind couldn't stop in time and hit the car, shoving it into the center divider and a lamp post.
- Both vehicles were badly damaged; the two drivers escaped serious injury and both tested clean for alcohol.
- The iguana, an invasive species that has spread widely across southern Taiwan, died at the scene.
Outlook: Police are still working out fault and are urging drivers to watch the road ahead and keep a safe following distance.
