First batch of F-16V Block 70 jets to arrive in Taiwan
Taiwan's first new F-16V Block 70 fighter jets will fly in from the United States soon, a boost for the island's air defenses as pressure from China grows.
- Taiwan bought 66 new F-16V jets from the US and the first ones are about to land at Chihhang air base in Taitung.
- The exact arrival date is still up to the American side and has not been set.
- All 66 were supposed to arrive this year, but a factory move and supply problems pushed the schedule back.
- The US production line is now running double shifts, 20 hours a day, to catch up.
- The new jets carry stronger engines, longer range, some stealth features, and advanced AESA radar for spotting and tracking targets far away.
Outlook: More jets should follow in batches over the coming months, though the full delivery is likely to slip past the original deadline.
