Disney inducted a new class of Legends at its D23 fan event, while Hollywood also absorbed the sudden death of actress Hayden Panettiere — a mix of celebration and loss for the entertainment world.

• Dwayne Johnson was among 11 people inducted as Disney Legends at D23 in Anaheim, with Emily Blunt presenting his award.
• The 2026 class also includes Anne Hathaway, Lin-Manuel Miranda, former Disney CEO Bob Iger, and the Jonas Brothers.
• Hayden Panettiere, known for Heroes, Remember the Titans, and Nashville, died at 36 after being found in cardiac arrest in Greenville, South Carolina; she leaves an 11-year-old daughter.
• Her brother Jansen died three years ago at 28 from an undiagnosed heart condition, deepening the loss for her family.
• Spider-Man: Brand New Day topped the box office for a third straight weekend and passed $2 billion worldwide, the second fastest film ever to get there.

Outlook: Spider-Man looks set to chase $3 billion — a mark no film has hit — as Marvel lines up Avengers: Doomsday and a new X-Men slate.
