Aug 15, 2026

In a week-long large-scale spot-check operation, police in Taoyuan's Zhongli District rounded up a large number of suspects — good news for public safety, bad news for criminals.

  • On the evening of the 15th, police deployed 79 officers, setting up four road checkpoints and conducting inspections at 14 key public-safety venues including KTVs, bars and motels.
  • A 21-year-old man surnamed Pan pulled over suddenly upon seeing the checkpoint and behaved suspiciously; drugs were found on him and he tested positive in a rapid drug-driving screening, leading to his arrest on the spot.
  • From the 9th to the 15th of this month, police uncovered a total of 115 criminal cases and arrested 101 people, including 29 cases of fraud, 24 drug cases, 11 cases of drunk driving, 6 cases of drug-impaired driving and 8 cases of theft.
  • They also handled 26 cases involving wanted individuals and arrested 19 people, with all cases referred for prosecution in accordance with the law.

Outlook: Police said they will continue to step up spot-checks, road checkpoints and patrols targeting public-safety hotspots, cracking down hard on crimes such as drugs, fraud and drunk driving.
