This year's Yilan International Children's Folklore and Toy Festival has closed with visitor numbers lower than last year — bad news for the organisers.

• The 44-day event drew 410,000 visitors, 60,000 fewer than last year's 470,000.
• Visitor numbers have fallen for two years running; in 2024 the figure was still 530,000.
• After the opening, a string of negative news followed, including peeling paint in the water play area and a visitor suffering a puncture wound to the sole of the foot.
• The county government attributed the drop in numbers to disruption from typhoons, which forced the park to close for three days at one point, along with strong winds and heavy rain around Father's Day.
• The closing ceremony featured a joint performance by teams from various countries, and a KIA car worth 679,000 (market value) was drawn as the grand prize.

Outlook: If the weather is normal next year and the park's safety problems improve, the organisers hope to push hard to bring visitor numbers back up.
