Wang Tzu-wei wins national badminton ranking title, his first since 2016

Aug 16, 2026

Taiwanese badminton player Wang Tzu-wei took the men's singles crown at the second national ranking tournament of 2026, a boost heading into the Nagoya Asian Games.

  • Wang beat his younger Hua Nan teammate Huang Yu in three games to claim his third career ranking title, ten years after his last one in 2016.
  • He played through a left ankle injury twisted in his opening match, but felt sharper than at last month's Taipei Open.
  • His world ranking has slipped to 40, which is why he returned to domestic competition after mostly playing international events.
  • He said the win helped him spot weak points to fix and rekindled his early passion for the game.

Outlook: Wang heads straight to the hospital for ankle treatment before competing at the Nagoya Asian Games, his next event.
