A fried-squid vendor at Hualien's Dongdamen Night Market was injured last night when someone smashed the stall with a club — bad news for the victimised vendor, and the man responsible has already been referred by police to prosecutors.

• At around 8 p.m. on the 15th, a fried-squid stall on the Indigenous Street of Dongdamen Night Market was wrecked by someone wielding a club, with glass shattered and sent flying.

• The vendor, a man surnamed Huang, suffered cuts to his hand and head from the glass and was also struck in the abdomen with the club.

• The man who carried out the attack, surnamed Lin, is the founder of the Gangtian Temple Night Market in Hualien City; after leaving that evening he went to the police station of his own accord to give an account.

• The two sides told conflicting stories: Lin said that Huang, the stall owner, did not meet the qualifications to set up a stall and that he had lost control of his emotions while drunk and smashed the stall to vent his anger; Huang, the owner, said it stemmed from a money dispute between his employee and Lin's daughter that dragged him into it.

Outlook: The whole case has been referred to the Hualien District Prosecutors Office for investigation on charges of criminal damage and causing injury, with prosecutors to clarify the truth of the dispute between the two sides going forward.
