A rear-end collision followed by a hit-and-run occurred yesterday evening on the Wuyang elevated expressway in Taoyuan, and police quickly tracked down those involved using surveillance cameras.

• A Toyota sedan rear-ended a Tesla SUV from behind on the Zhongli section, and the at-fault driver walked off along the road shoulder together with two passengers.

• After the Tesla owner reported the incident, police reviewed surveillance footage and found that the three had been picked up by a white sedan, which they then pulled over and brought back to the squad station for investigation.

• The one who caused the collision was a 36-year-old Vietnamese man surnamed Nguyen, who hit the car in front because he failed to keep a safe distance; both drivers' breathalyser readings were zero.

• Nguyen and the two passengers are all Vietnamese migrant workers who had gone missing from their registered employment, while the woman driving the white car that picked them up is a friend of Nguyen's and has a legitimate status.

Outlook: The accident will be handled according to regulations, and Nguyen and the three missing migrant workers will be transferred to the National Immigration Agency's Special Operations Brigade for detention and investigation.
