Taichung City Councillor Yang Tien-chung held a funeral service today for his late wife Yu Mei-chih, offering a heartfelt farewell in a mournful yet warm piece of local news.

• Yang Tien-chung, a Taichung City Councillor from the Democratic Progressive Party, held a funeral service this morning for his late wife Yu Mei-chih, personally recounting the story of how the two met and stayed together.

• Yu Mei-chih devoted more than 25 years to public service, working in household registration and serving as director of a household registration office, and continued to bravely battle cancer after her retirement.

• Taichung Mayor Lu Shiow-yen led city government officials, and legislators Chen Chi-mai [Tsai Chi-chang] and Ho Hsin-chun, among others, attended to pay their respects; President Lai Ching-te and Premier Cho Jung-tai had also visited earlier to offer condolences.

• Choking back tears, Yang Tien-chung recalled that before she passed away his wife held onto him and said, "I want to stay with you a little longer," and he pledged to carry on with his wife's love for their family.

Outlook: Yang Tien-chung said he would carry on his wife's love for the family by caring for their two daughters and living out the rest of his life.
