Pingtung Wang Boat Culture Museum Opens "Tianbao" Special Exhibition, Showcasing Donggang's Welcoming the King Culture

Aug 16, 2026

The fourth special exhibition in the Seven Jiaotou series at Pingtung County's Wang Boat Culture Museum, titled "Tianbao," opened today, inviting the public to learn about the heritage of Donggang's Welcoming the King ceremony — good news for local culture.

  • The special exhibition takes Dingzhong Street as its theme, arranging the exhibition space around the concept of a "treasure pavilion."
  • On display are artifacts including deity palanquins, palanquin-bearers' garments, banners, lanterns, old photographs, and manuscripts.
  • The name "Tianbao" is drawn from the phrase "wu hua tian bao" (the finest of things, treasures of heaven), also echoing the faith and spirit of the King touring the realm on Heaven's behalf during the Welcoming the King ceremony.
  • County Magistrate Chou Chun-mi attended the event, saying that the most precious thing is the faith, emotion, and sense of responsibility of the people of Donggang passed down through generations behind these artifacts.

Looking ahead: The Dingwei triennial Welcoming the King ceremony will take place in 2027, and the culture museum will continue to bring together local efforts to preserve artifacts and the stories of the ceremony.
