A long-standing narrow bottleneck road in New Taipei City's Yingge District is being widened — good news for local residents and pedestrians.

• The intersection where Fengji 4th Street meets Section 2 of Yingtao Road was originally only 3.5 metres wide, making it difficult for vehicles to pass each other and blocking fire and rescue vehicles.
• After acquiring the land, the city government began widening work that will double the road width to 7.2 metres, turning it into a two-way, two-lane road, with completion expected by the end of September.
• The sidewalk on nearby Fengyi Road is being improved at the same time, expanding pedestrian space and adding smart shared poles and accessibility facilities.
• Because the street light's number happens to be "201314" (a homophone for "love you for a lifetime, for all eternity" in Chinese), red heart-shaped street furniture has been installed on site, turning it into a photo spot.

Outlook: The widening work is expected to be completed by the end of September, when the difficulty of vehicles passing each other and the problems with emergency access are expected to be eased.
