Li Si-chuan Responds to Billboard Spending Controversy, Countering That Su Chiao-hui Has More Billboards
As Taiwan's 2026 mayoral and county magistrate elections heat up, the Blue and Green camps have been trading fire over spending on campaign billboards.
- The Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) questioned whether the Kuomintang (KMT) had spent over NT$100 million putting up billboards for its Kaohsiung mayoral candidate Ko Chih-en.
- KMT New Taipei mayoral candidate Li Si-chuan said he does not have that kind of budget, and that in many places his billboards cannot be seen at all.
- Li Si-chuan countered that the billboards of his Green camp rival Su Chiao-hui span all 29 districts of New Taipei, likely several times more in number, and that questions about where the funding comes from should be directed to Su herself.
- Li Si-chuan stressed that his record consists of physical infrastructure in New Taipei such as bridges and roads, and pledged that if elected he would push forward the Shulin Dome and the elevation of the railway station.
Outlook: With some time still to go before election day, both the Blue and Green camps are expected to continue their back-and-forth over campaign spending and political records.
