Li Si-chuan proposes that Taipei and New Taipei jointly host a Tamsui River fireworks show
New Taipei mayoral candidate Li Si-chuan says that next summer Taipei and New Taipei should jointly hold a fireworks show on both banks of the Tamsui River, calling it a piece of positive news about an event for residents of the two cities.
- Last Saturday evening, both the Dadaocheng riverbank in Taipei and the Sanchong riverbank in New Taipei were packed with crowds, all watching the fireworks and drone display in the same stretch of sky.
- That evening, Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an phoned Li Si-chuan, who was standing on the Sanchong riverbank, and invited New Taipei to co-host the event next year.
- Li Si-chuan used the phrase "joint governance across the strait" as a metaphor for the two sides of the Tamsui River, stressing that here "the two sides" refers to the Tamsui River, not the Taiwan Strait.
- He said that residents of the two cities cross the bridges to commute every day and have always been part of the same living area, so the river should not be a dividing line.
Outlook: If Li Si-chuan is elected and works with Chiang Wan-an, next summer could see the first-ever cross-river fireworks show jointly held by Taipei and New Taipei.
