A man allegedly high on drugs ran a red light in Kaohsiung and set off a four-car pileup, hurting three people — bad news for the victims and another case in Taiwan's fight against drugged driving.

• A 36-year-old driver blew through a red light and hit several cars one after another at a Zuoying District intersection on Saturday afternoon.
• Three people were hurt: a male driver with a back injury, and a female passenger with a head gash and broken ribs, plus a 3-year-old girl, all taken to hospital.
• All drivers passed the alcohol test, but the man voluntarily handed over a bag of ketamine, and a saliva test came back positive for amphetamine, ketamine, and sedatives.
• Police arrested him and referred the case to prosecutors on public endangerment charges, with a possible fine of up to about NT$125,000.

Outlook: The man faces prosecution while traffic police work out the crash's exact cause and who is at fault.
