Keelung Mayor Hsieh Kuo-liang went to Shiquanting Park over the weekend to take part in a community parent-child event — a piece of light local human-interest news, and a positive development for families and the community.

• With two weeks of summer vacation left, Hsieh Kuo-liang went to Shiquanting Park to interact and have fun with local children and adults alike.
• The event was jointly organised by the Gancheng Borough Office and the Anle District Office, bringing together several local community groups to set up game and hands-on activity booths.
• Hsieh Kuo-liang stressed that a friendly city must start at the community level, giving children a space to play and socialise close to home.
• He also invited parents to make the most of the last days of summer vacation by taking their children to play in the water at Nuannuan Water Park and to get outdoors.

Outlook: The city government said it will continue to work with local partners to create more friendly spaces for families to share.
