Two Republican primary races in Hawaii finished in exact ties, a first for the state, and the winners will now be chosen by a random drawing.

• In Senate District 20, former lawmaker Bob McDermott and sitting Senator Kurt Fevella each landed 1,212 votes.
• In House District 43, sitting Representative Kanani Souza and Sheila Medeiros each got 842 votes.
• A recount on Monday changed nothing, even after officials counted previously rejected ballots.
• The Office of Elections will hold a drawing Saturday at the State Capitol to pick each winner.
• The winners advance to November's general election, and with no Democrat running in House District 43, that race's winner is effectively decided.

Outlook: Saturday's drawing at the Capitol will settle both races and send the winners to the November ballot.
