Maui SERG program helps Lahaina wildfire survivors with free health and mental health care

Aug 14, 2026

Three years after the Lahaina wildfires, a federal program is still providing free behavioral and mental health support to affected Maui families.

  • The Maui SERG program, run through Papa Ola Lokahi, brings together up to 20 providers offering free services to fire survivors.
  • Hana Health, one of the providers, gives medical, dental, and mental health care to anyone regardless of ability to pay.
  • Many Lahaina families moved to Hana to stay with relatives after losing their homes, and local students at Lahainaluna were also hit hard.
  • Case management helps survivors navigate their recovery and connect with the care and referrals they need.

Outlook: The recovery effort continues three years on, with ongoing free care aimed at the long-term mental and physical health of wildfire survivors.
