Li Si-chuan and Su Chiao-hui campaign for New Taipei mayor, rolling out sports and childcare policies

Aug 15, 2026

The race for New Taipei mayor is heating up, with the Kuomintang's Li Si-chuan and the Democratic Progressive Party's Su Chiao-hui each promoting their policy platforms on the same day, both emphasising sports and family-friendly issues — a development worth noting for voters following the local race.

  • Li Si-chuan put forward "Sports Equality 2.0," which aims to let people with disabilities exercise with ease, and he visited a disabled baseball and softball field to try blind baseball blindfolded.
  • His policies include setting up dedicated areas for people with disabilities at sports centres, building wheelchair-friendly venues, and laying barrier-free wooden boardwalks on beaches to promote wheelchair surfing.
  • Su Chiao-hui established a support group for fellow Yunlin natives and members of the Lin clan, focusing on exchanges of AI vocational and technical talent between New Taipei and Yunlin and on industrial upgrading.
  • Su Chiao-hui also stressed childcare policies, seeking to integrate medical, childcare, education and sports resources, and to secure family-friendly sports spaces such as covered sports courts for schools.

Outlook: As both candidates continue to build up grassroots support and backing among various communities, the policy contest in the New Taipei mayoral race is likely to grow increasingly heated.
