Bari Weiss pressured CBS journalists to report claims they couldn't verify
CBS News is in turmoil as a former 60 Minutes reporter says new boss Bari Weiss pushed her to report things that never happened — bad for the network's credibility and for anyone who still trusts mainstream news.
- Ousted correspondent Cecilia Vega says Weiss pressured her to include unverified claims, in audio obtained by reporter Oliver Darcy.
- Vega says her team was pushed to air footage of protesters attacking suspected ICE agents that they could never actually confirm existed.
- She says producers wanted her to describe a mayor telling police to confront ICE agents, and a police chief rolling his eyes — but neither happened.
- She was also told to call the Iran war a rout for the US and Israel, and to work JD Vance and his memoir into an unrelated story about food-stamp cuts.
Outlook: CBS News ratings keep sinking and trust is eroding, so expect more defections and public complaints from its veteran journalists.
