Taiwan's US Arms Deals: 21 on Track, 3 Delayed
Most of Taiwan's active arms purchases from the US are moving on schedule, but three important ones are running late.
- Of 24 ongoing US arms deals, 21 are on track and 3 are delayed.
- The delays hit heavy torpedoes, a type of guided missile, and new F-16V fighter jets, mostly due to supply chain problems and factories needing to restart production lines.
- The torpedo order is now expected to finish in 2028 instead of this year.
- The missile delay pushed delivery from this year to 2028, even though the related F-16 upgrade work itself is already done.
- The F-16V jet order already saw its first two planes arrive this month, with the rest to follow in batches after US-side preparations.
Outlook: Deliveries for the delayed items are expected to stretch out over the next two to three years, while other equipment like tanks, drones, and missile defense systems continue arriving on schedule.
