Kekaha residents on Kauai assessing damage from Lowell
The west side of Kauai is digging out after the storm, with homes, farms and small businesses hit harder than residents say they have ever seen.
- Roads and an intersection in Kekaha were washed out, and some buildings were left badly torn up.
- A local farm lost most of its crops, and its shrimp farm is at risk if the power stays off much longer.
- A storm surge pushed several inches of water into at least one store.
- Cell service is back, but people are still waiting on electricity, and no damage total has been put out yet.
Outlook: Recovery will take time, and the immediate priority is getting power restored before more farm losses pile up.
