Hawaii's biggest animal-welfare fundraiser returns next month, good news for shelter pets and the families who adopt them.

• More than 1,000 pets and their people are expected at PetWalk on Saturday, October 24 at Kapiolani Park, running from 7 a.m. to noon.
• Money raised pays for the animals in the Hawaiian Humane Society's care and its community pet programs.
• Josie's Ohana is the presenting sponsor for the first time this year.
• A registration party at Aloha Beer Company in Kaka'ako runs tomorrow evening, where signing up on site gets you the annual shirt that sells out every year.
• The event is open to dogs, cats, birds, and even pigs, with a costume contest for pets and their owners.

Outlook: Registration is open now, and the shirt giveaway at tomorrow's Kaka'ako event is the cheapest way in before the October walk.
