Walsin Technology rides MLCC price-hike wave, shares up more than 8%

Sep 06, 2026

Shares of Taiwanese passive component maker Walsin Technology surged as the MLCC (multilayer ceramic capacitor) market returned to a price-increase cycle — good news for investors holding the stock.

  • Walsin Technology climbed to NT$324 in morning trade, up more than 8%, with volume topping 30,000 lots and lifting the passive component sector as a whole.
  • Samsung Electro-Mechanics, the world's second-largest MLCC maker, will raise quotes in the fourth quarter, with even general consumer-grade products seeing their first price increase in six years, by as much as 20% to 30%.
  • Demand from AI data centres is so strong that some suppliers' capacity utilisation rates are already close to full, pushing orders over into consumer-grade products. Walsin Technology and Yageo, both major suppliers, benefit directly.
  • Walsin Technology has also restarted a bond issuance plan that had been on hold for six years, with its board approving a NT$4.5 billion five-year convertible bond. The market reads this as a sign of expansion at an industry turning point.
  • The broader Taiwan stock market rose nearly 700 points the same day to close above 47,000, with TSMC and MediaTek both strengthening. The dollar index falling below 99 and the appreciation of the New Taiwan dollar also fuelled buying.

Outlook: The market will next watch whether Japan's Murata and Taiyo Yuden follow with price increases. If they do, MLCCs will have formally returned to a price-increase cycle, leaving related stocks room to rise further.
