An Amazon Air cargo plane ran off the end of a runway at Miami International after landing in bad weather, and it looks like several problems stacked up at once.

• The Boeing 767 freighter came in too fast and too steep, dropping at roughly twice the normal rate on final approach.
• Thunderstorms had just moved across the field, leaving a wet runway, gusty crosswinds, and a slight tailwind pushing the plane down the strip.
• The runway in use was shortened to about 7,900 feet, well under the longest options at the airport, and no go-around was attempted.
• The plane was running behind schedule and, on a short hop from San Juan, likely carried a heavier cargo load with less fuel burned off.
• No confirmed word on injuries; the cockpit section looks largely intact, and 60 rescue crew responded.

Outlook: Investigators will pull the real flight data to sort out whether weather, workload, or a mechanical failure of brakes or thrust reversers cost the crew the runway.
