A rift has broken out within the Kuomintang over its nomination for Changhua county magistrate, with Wang Hui-mei publicly questioning the nomination process — bad news for the pan-blue camp's efforts to unify ahead of the year-end elections.

• Wang Hui-mei was absent when Wei Ping-cheng registered his candidacy, and said through tears that she had repeatedly raised concerns with party headquarters only to be ignored.
• She said she phoned Cheng Li-wun this May to ask that the nomination be postponed, waited two hours without a call back, and was never contacted by the chairwoman again.
• She had originally recommended Liu Ho-jan, but believes Wei Ping-cheng was the party headquarters' only choice from start to finish.
• Wei Ping-cheng is confident of victory, believing undecided voters will ultimately back him, while Wang Hui-mei warns against excessive optimism.
• The Taiwan People's Party may also field its own candidate in Changhua, and the collapse of blue-white cooperation makes the race even messier.

Outlook: If the pan-blue camp cannot bring Wang Hui-mei back on board to campaign, this Changhua seat could suffer at the year-end polls.
