Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an registered alongside the KMT's nominated city council candidates, formally setting up the blue-green showdown for the year-end elections and offering a display of morale for the KMT-run city government team.

• Chiang Wan-an listed four years of achievements, including the Taipei Dome boosting tourism in the eastern district, securing Nvidia's move into the Beitou-Shilin Technology Park, a doubling in the volume of approved urban renewal cases, and the opening of multiple MRT lines.
• Taipei City Council Speaker Tai Hsi-chin hit back at the green camp with the line "whether you run into ocean currents or a storm, you must never change the helmsman," an allusion to DPP candidate Puma Shen, who the previous day had been accompanied by Tsai Ing-wen and used a ship's helm as a symbol of taking over Taipei.
• The controversy over Chiang Wan-an's eldest son being selected for a city government publicly funded exchange programme continued to grow, with questions raised over conflict of interest and the boy's US citizenship; Chiang responded that everything was handled according to the rules and that he had not intervened.
• The blue camp also lined up its ranks in other counties and cities: former Kinmen county magistrate Yang Cheng-wu withdrew to leave Chen Yu-chen as the sole candidate, and Chiang Chi-chen registered his candidacy in Taichung, but at an event in Hsinchu former county magistrate Fan Chen-tsung confronted party chair Cheng Li-wun in person, denouncing the failure of blue-white cooperation as a strategic error.
• The Executive Yuan on the same day approved the largest supplementary budget in history, at more than NT$600 billion, of which drone platforms account for about a quarter, with a capital injection for CPC Corporation and measures to stabilise livelihoods in response to the Middle East conflict also making up large shares.

Outlook: Chiang Wan-an has yet to register in person for the mayoral election, and the controversy involving his family, along with whether the blue and white camps can cooperate, will be the main variables in the race in Taipei and other counties and cities going forward.
