Guatemala's interior minister visits Taiwan, reaffirms diplomatic ties
Guatemala is publicly recommitting to its alliance with Taiwan, a rare win for Taipei as China keeps peeling away its remaining diplomatic partners.
- Guatemala's interior minister led a delegation to Taiwan and called Taipei an extremely important partner.
- Taiwan has donated more than 500 police motorcycles to help Guatemalan officers get around faster and fight crime.
- Taiwan also trained 15 Guatemalan officers in cybersecurity, which Guatemala says helps after recent foreign hacking attacks.
- President Arévalo firmly backs the 92-year relationship, and Guatemala keeps pushing for Taiwan's entry into the UN, WHO and Interpol.
Outlook: Guatemala looks set to stay one of Taiwan's most reliable allies, with security and cyber cooperation the main glue holding the relationship together.
