26-year-old woman dead after McCully crash
A young woman was killed and a passenger badly hurt in an overnight crash on Oahu, the island's 26th traffic death this year.
- She was driving east on Bingham Street when her car sideswiped a parked vehicle and flipped over.
- The car then hit a second parked car and tore a fire hydrant out of the ground, flooding the street.
- She died at the hospital; a 25-year-old passenger is in critical condition, while another passenger and a one-year-old baby escaped serious injury.
- Only the driver and the baby were wearing seatbelts, and police do not yet know if speed, drugs, or alcohol were involved.
- Neighbors say drivers regularly speed through this residential block.
Outlook: Police are still investigating the cause, and pressure is building for more caution on Oahu's residential streets as the yearly death toll climbs.
