A late-night house fire in Waipahu gutted one home and damaged the one next door, leaving residents displaced and two people hurt.

• The fire broke out just after 10 p.m. on Kohou Place and burned hot enough to melt a metal security door.
• Two people were treated by paramedics; their conditions have not been released.
• Flames spread to the neighboring house, so more than one family is now out of a home.
• Firefighters knocked the fire down in half an hour and none were hurt.
