• He first announced the closure of Taiwan's office in PNG in July, and repeated the call at the Pacific Islands Forum.
• Taiwan's foreign ministry hit back hard, saying PNG is simply following China's lead, and that Taiwan and China do not belong to each other.
• Taiwan has already stopped buying PNG natural gas on the spot market as payback, though its office in PNG is still running normally.
