A 12-year Maui police officer has been arrested and charged with six counts of assault, another blow to public trust in the department.

• The officer was taken into custody on a warrant and faces four second-degree and two third-degree assault charges.
• He had already been on leave since May 2025 following an earlier arrest for first-degree assault.
• His gun and police credentials were taken away at that time while the case was investigated.
• Maui police are not releasing his name.

Outlook: The case now moves through the courts, and the department faces pressure to explain how long the officer stayed on the payroll while under investigation.
