Lin Wei-chou Says Blue-White Cooperation in Zhubei Is Progressing; KMT Calls It a Misunderstanding
Blue-white cooperation in the mayoral election in Zhubei City, Hsinchu County, Taiwan, is reported to have collapsed. This is bad news for the integration of the Kuomintang and the Taiwan People's Party, but works in favour of other camps.
- Former legislator Lin Wei-chou claimed the blue and white camps might jointly back the TPP's Chiu Chen-yuan, but the KMT promptly denied this internally, calling it a mix-up.
- KMT Zhubei mayoral candidate Wu Hsu-chih has expressed no intention of withdrawing, and the situation remains one of each party fielding its own candidate.
- TPP Chairman Huang Kuo-chang also said that the situation as understood by Lin Wei-chou differs from the facts.
- The blue camp believes its own candidate is the stronger contender in Zhubei, leaving no room to simply yield the race.
Outlook: If the blue and white camps are to achieve integration in Zhubei, the only route may be a jointly agreed opinion poll; the chance of one side directly standing aside is very low.
