Huang Kuo-chang Reiterates Ann Kao Will Stay in Zhubei Race to the End; Ko Wen-je Questions KMT's Shifting Account

Sep 01, 2026

The collapse of blue-white cooperation in the Zhubei mayoral election is bad news for both parties, as mutual trust has been publicly called into question and the risk of a split in the non-green camp has risen.

  • Taiwan People's Party Chairman Huang Kuo-chang said he has confirmed with KMT Chairwoman Cheng Li-wun that former legislator Lin Wei-chou's claim of a turnaround in cooperation talks is not true.
  • The TPP has decided there will be no further talks on cooperation and will back its own candidate, Ann Kao, to stay in the race to the end.
  • Ko Wen-je criticised the KMT's account as self-contradictory, saying the various sides are shifting blame onto one another, and stated bluntly that cooperation is impossible when what people say cannot be trusted.
  • Ko called on Cheng Li-wun and Huang Kuo-chang to wrap up the matter quickly and contain the fallout within Hsinchu.

Outlook: Zhubei may see the blue and white camps facing off directly, and the atmosphere for cooperation between the two parties in other counties and cities will be harder to repair.
