Chiu Chen-yuan and Wu Hsu-chih seek Chen Chien-hsien's backing as KMT-TPP coordination in Zhubei remains unresolved
Blue-white coordination in the race for mayor of Zhubei City, Hsinchu County, has yet to be settled — unwelcome uncertainty for both candidates and their supporters.
- Taiwan People's Party candidate Chiu Chen-yuan, accompanied by Huang Kuo-chang, called on Hsinchu County Deputy Magistrate Chen Chien-hsien, and said afterwards that he had received Chen's full support.
- Kuomintang candidate Wu Hsu-chih said he had also paid a visit to Chen Chien-hsien, stressing that it was a routine engagement, and that he intends to register his candidacy on the 3rd as planned.
- Former legislator Lin Wei-chou said a consensus had formed among the various parties that "only blue-white cooperation can win the election," but Wu Hsu-chih said bluntly that this differs from his own understanding of the situation.
- The KMT's Hsinchu County branch would say only that "coordination is continuing," County Magistrate Yang Wen-ke declined to take a position, and magisterial candidate Hsu Hsin-ying said she had no prior knowledge that Lin Wei-chou was going to make those remarks.
Outlook: With the registration deadline on the 3rd approaching, if the blue and white camps cannot reach a result before then, the two men may each run all the way to election day.
